Irish Foreign Minister Garret Fitzgerald, who has just completed a tour of four Arab capitals, met today with Israeli Foreign Minister Yigal Allon to exchange views on the Mideast problem. Earlier, Fitzgerald told newsmen here that he believes there is in the Arab countries “the same desire for peace which I think is in Israel.”
Fitzgerald, who was president of the European Economic Community’s Ministerial Council in May when Israel and the EEC signed a treaty, explained the agreement to the Arabs during his recent tour. During today’s talks, Allon reviewed the historical background of the Mideast conflict, Israel’s insistence on secure borders and the Israeli view on the Palestinian issue. Fitzgerald met earlier with President Ephraim Katzir.
