Deputy Premier Yigal Allon said last night that the situation created by the ouster of Soviet personnel from Egypt has created new possibilities for a political solution of the Middle East conflict. Allon, addressing a meeting of young Druze members of the Labor Party, said that as far as Israel is concerned Egypt and Jordan may opt for either a partial or full settlement of their disputes with Israel. “We prefer a total settlement but we are prepared to negotiate on either choice,” Allon said.

He said that “Israel will not exploit the situation on the Egyptian front following the exodus of Soviet experts.” Allon congratulated the Egyptians for their courage in “breaking away from a friend who is not a friend.” He added that Egypt was lucky that it had no common border with Russia as Czechoslovakia and Hungary have.
