Deputy Premier and Education Minister Yigal Allon left today for three-week visit to the United States and Canada where he will attend United Jewish Appeal functions. He is also scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State William P. Rogers in Washington. Allon said at the airport that he was not carrying “any specific plans” to discuss with Rogers because “there is no need for such detailed plans at this time.” He said his talks in Washington would be an exchange of views at this juncture.
Asked to comment on Chad’s severance of diplomatic relations with Israel, Allon said he thought it was time for Israel to reassess its policies with regard to Africa but cautioned against taking too gloomy a view of African relations. He said he had some concrete suggestions but that “it is too early to make them public.” (Leon Dultzin, treasurer of the Jewish Agency, left London today for the U.S. where he will visit eight major cities as a guest of the United Jewish Appeal.)
