Acting Premier Yigal Allon said last night that the Indo-Pakistani war served as a warning to small powers of the ineffectiveness of the United Nations Security Council in averting or halting wars, Allon said on a radio interview that small states everywhere, including the Middle East could find themselves the victims of Big Power interests and interference and said he hoped “the lessons of this tragedy are not lost on Cairo.” Allon expressed sympathy for the people of Bengla Desh, East Pakistan, who find themselves crushed between the conflicting interests of the super-powers and of the two medium powers, India and Pakistan. He chided India for having lectured Israel against the right of active self-defense in the June 1967 war. He observed that India did not flinch from invading East Pakistan which is part of the sovereign Pakistani state. The Security Council is currently debating the conflagration in the Asian sub-continent.
