An Allotment Committee has been appointed to allocate the funds raised by the 1943 United Jewish Appeal it was announced today by Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, chairman of the Fund-Raising Committee of the Joint Distribution Committee and Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver, national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal.
On the basis of the agreement continuing the United Jewish Appeal for 1943, the Allotment Committee will have the responsibility of distributing all funds raised by the nationwide campaign above the initial sum of $9,100,000. The distribution of these funds will be made by the Allotment Committee among the constituent agencies of the United Jewish Appeal in accordance with its analysis of their respective needs and programs in the current year.
As has been the practice in the selection of an Allotment Committee in previous years, the membership of the committee comprises two representatives of Jewish communities at large, named by both the J.D.C. and U.P.A. The 1943 Allotment Committee consists of James H. Becker of Chicago and I. Edwin Goldwasser of New York, for the Joint Distribution Committee; Charles J. Rosenbloom of Pittsburgh and Dr. Abba Hillel Silver of Cleveland for the United Palestine Appeal; and Joel Gross of Newark, Louis Caplan of Pittsburgh and Edwin J. Schanfarber of Columbus, O., for the Jewish communities at large.
