Labor Minister Yosef Almogi announced today that he would leave the Cabinet to run for mayor of Haifa. He said he was doing so at the behest of the Labor Party leadership which wants him to take over the administration of Israel’s largest port city whose mayor, Moshe Flieman, died recently. Almogi said that if elected he would devote himself solely to municipal affairs and would not sit in the Cabinet even as a minister without portfolio.
