Already on May 25th, following intervention with the local authorities, by Deputy Michael Landau, an inquiry into the Bronstein case was ordered, “Unser Zcit” of June 6th reported, expressing the hope that the gendarmerie would have no desire to hide the shameful deeds that blot the reputation of Roumania.
At the same time the paper stated that on May 28th, the public prosecutor Below and an investigating Judge went to Yedinez in order to investigate the reasons for the Bronstein arrest.
The statement of undersecretary of State Tillea declared: “The captain of the gendarmes, Panisoara, who was inaccurately reported as having participated in the alleged outrages has been transferred as a disciplinary measure by telegraphic order.
The chief of the gendarme’s post has been suspended for the violence committed and subjected to a judicial inquiry. As soon as the inquiry is completed he will be held for trial. The government is determined to proceed with the utmost severity against those responsible and to take all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence of similar excesses.”
