Assemblyman Joseph Altman, of Atlantic City, took office as majority leader of the House of Assembly at the formal convening of the 1933 session of the State Legislature. He has been a Republican member of the House for a number of years. Should his party gain control of next year’s session, it is believed he would automatically succeed to the Speakership.
Assemblyman Joseph Greenberg, of Hoboken, served as Speaker last year. In addition to Altman and Greenberg, three other Jews were sworn in as Assemblymen: Samuel Pesin, of Jersey City; Elmer E. Brown, of Carteret and Herman Blank, of Newark.
