Ambassador Avraham Darom, for the last six years director of the Latin American Department of Israel’s Foreign Ministry, assumed here today the post of Israel’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations. The permanent representative is Ambassador Michael S. Comay.
Born in Chile in 1906, Mr. Darom received a law degree from the University of Chile, at Santiago, practiced criminal law, lectured at the university, later became legal adviser to the Chilean Ministry of Labor, and was director-general of Chilean State prisons until he went to Israel in 1949. After joining the staff of the Israel Foreign Ministry, he served first as Israel’s diplomatic representative at Athens, later as Minister Plenipotentiary at Belgrade. He also served on Israel’s delegations to the General Assembly here in 1949 and 1959.
