Aubrey S. Eban, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States who returned here from Tel Aviv with his family over the week-end, said that public opinion in Israel is very much interested in the Korean situation and that “the Israel Government’s concern has been expressed in two messages in support of the efforts of the Security Council to restore international peace and security.”
Israel’s attitude, Mr. Eban added, is “governed solely by its obligations as a member of the U.N. and is influenced by Israel’s own experiences in the past, when Israel was attacked.” Declaring that a “major democratic adventure of our time is going on in Israel now–the building of a nation at break-neck speed,” Mr. Eban noted that “many difficulties of an economic character cause grave concern, but these are pains of rapid growth and not of illness.” Mr. Eban is expected to present his credentials to President Truman this week.
