Ambassador Gunnar V. Jarring, the U.N.’s special envoy to the Middle East, had a one-hour meeting today with Secretary-General U Thant in which he delivered a personal report on his peace-making efforts in the Middle East.
No statement was issued following the meeting. It was not expected that any report would be made public on the nature and scope of Dr. Jarring’s consultations here. Dr. Jarring is expected to return to Cyprus this weekend with the agreement of Mr. Thant to take direct action to bring the Arab states and Israel to the conference table.
