The United States Government has instructed the American ambassador in Ankara to intervene with the Turkish authorities, “on humanitarian grounds,” to secure the admission into Turkey of the Jewish refugees from Rumania now on board the cutter Michai in Turkish waters as well as permission for the twelve passengers from the wrecked cutter Euxenia to remain in the Turkish port where they were landed after their ship foundered, it was learned here today.
Under-Secretary of State Summer Welles, in a letter to the United Rumanian Jews of America, stated that the American ambassador in Ankara will ask the Turkish government to permit the refugees to remain in Turkey until Palestine visas can be secured for them.
