Ten winners–five in the United States and five in Israel–have been selected as recipients of the $2,000 prize awards in the essay contest arranged by the Zionist Organization of America on the subject of “What Can Israel Offer American Jewry-What Can American Jewry Offer Israel?” it was announced today by the Z. O. A. The award money was contributed by Benjamin G. Browdy, Z. O. A. president.
Close to 1,000 essays were received from participants in both countries. The judges of the contest were Israel’s Ambassador Abba Eban, Dr. Abba Hillel Silver and Prof. Salo W. Baron. The American winners are: first prize, Wolf Kazo, research chemist in Cleveland, Ohio; second prize, Rabbi Elias Levi of Montgomery, Ala.; third prizes. Rabbi Joseph S. Shubow of Brighton, Mass; Bernard Ducoff, rabbinical student of New York, and Benson Saler, student at Princeton University.
