The names of three Americans were reported under consideration today for the appointment to the post of commissioner of an autonomous body created by the Council of the League of Nations to deal with the question of caring for refugees from Germany.
Alfred E. Smith, Col. Theodore Roosevelt, former Governor-General of the Philippines, and Nicholas Roosevelt, former Minister to Hungary, were mentioned in connection with the appointment.
Mr. Smith declined to comment on the report. Asked at Albany whether he would accept the appointment, the former Governor said: “I don’t know anything about it. Never heard of it.”
Colonel Roosevelt told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he has received no official notification that he is being considered for appointment and declined to comment.
