Walter J. Donelly, United States High Commissioner for Austria, has loosed a blast at the Austrian authorities for the consideration of legislation to give Nazis repatriated as prisoners of war relief from the punitive provisions of the denazification law.
“I am disappointed to find legislation intended for the relief of ex-Nazis preceding that for their victims,” the Commissioner declared. “Had this law under consideration been accompanied by corollary legislation intended to redress those who suffered under the Nazi regime. I could give it much more sympathetic consideration.” The measure will not be implemented because the three western powers object to it.
