A gift of $20,000 by Sir Alexander Korda, head of the British affiliate of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, toward the $2,000,000 fund being raised for the establishment in Palestine of the Weizmann Institute of Science was announced yesterday by Edmund I. Kaufmann, president of the American Committee for the campaign.
The project was begun recently as a seventieth birthday tribute to Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine. Mr. Kaufmann stated that in addition to the $500,000 in gifts and pledges, towards the program, previously announced the Committee has secured an additional sum of approximately $100,000. Substantial gifts, ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 were made by a New England group of friends of science and supporters of the Jewish upbuilding program for Palestine. The new support was obtained during a visit to Boston by Meyer W. Weisgal, director of the American office of the Jewish Agency for Palestine.
