High government circles in Washington are studying a proposal for the creation of a Foreign Legion under American auspices to comprise nationals of Yugoslavia, Greece and other Balkan states as well as anti-Fascist Italians, Hungarians and Rumanians, together with Jews of Palestine and the Middle East, for use in commando operations and as a spearhead for a big invasion of Europe, it is revealed by Louis Adamic, noted author, in en article which will appear in the forthcoming issue of The New Palestine, official publication of the Zionist Organization of America.

The proposed Legion would be called The American Legion of Freedom, Mr. Adamic reports. The various units in the Legion would have their own flags or other insignia, he states. Mr. Adamic assails the creation of ”parallel Jewish and Arab battalions in Palestine” in place of a Jewish Army, as a ”dodge,” and proposes the establishment of a Jewish Army of Palestinian and stateless Jews under American auspicies and command. Such a fighting force and the Legion idea are not in conflict, he maintains.
