A gift of fifty tons of fruit and sugar paste loaf for children in Israel was announced here today by Mrs. Rose G. Jacobs, president of the Esco Foundation for Palestine. The sweets, which are a kind of marmalade spread and which are worth $25,000, will be distributed among immigrant children in the Maabaroth. The distribution will be conducted by official agencies with the cooperation of a committee representing the Esco Foundation.
Mrs. Jacobs, one of the founders of the Hadassah and a former national president of the Hadassah, emphasized that the Esco Foundation is a private foundation, founded eleven years ago by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cohen of New York. Last year the foundation presented the Esco Music Center at Ein Gev to Israel. The year before two prefabricated dormitories and a school building equipped for agro-mechanics, as well as partial scholarships for Youth Aliyah children, were donated to the Pardess Hanna Secondary Agricultural School. In addition Esco has given a loan fund to the Hebrew University for American students there and subsidized a study in vocaional education.
