The formation of American Friends of Israel branches in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Newark and St. Louis was announced here today by Rudolf Sonneborn, president of the organization. Samuel Genel has accepted the chairmanship of the branch in Philadelphia. Nathan. Jacobson will serve as chairman in Baltimore, Jack Slavitt will head the branch in Newaek and Melvin Dubinsky will head the St. Louis branch.
“With the acceptance by these well-known personalities of key posts in the formation of local branches of American Friends of Israel, we are in a position to set in motion a vigorous nationwide effort to strengthen. Israel’s position in its relations with the United States and to give expression to the sentiments of large sections of the American Jewish population who are waiting for the opportunity to give voice to their friendship through an independent and dynamic medium, “Mr. Sonneborn said.
“In addition to the branches announced, the cities of Chicago, New York and Los Angeles are already moving forward with the organization of local branches of the American Friends of Israel,” Mr. Sonneborn stated.
