The first Jewish services in more than seven years were held in this city today, but only 12 of the 1,700 persons who attended were Jews. They are the only survivors of Offenbach’s Jewish population who have returned.
The services were held in a building in the rear of the wrecked synagogue, with the town’s burgomaster and the pastors of the local Catholic and Protestant churches attending. An American Army sergeant, Solly Landau, acted as rabbi.
