The establishment of an Association of Israel Bi-National Chambers of Commerce from eleven countries, and an International conference of businessmen and delegates from these chambers, were announced here today by Nathan Straus III, president of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Straus said that the experience of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce as well as that of the other chambers, indicated that American business firms could share in trade and business transactions between Israel and a third country, and that such American participation–through the supply of equipment, raw materials or credit or licensing services–was at times essential to making such transactions possible.
“The conclusion was,” stated Mr. Straus, “that close and permanent cooperation between the Israeli bi-national chambers of commerce in the various countries and the ability to give service to members of one chambers in other countries will result in increased trade and business relations between all concerned. The American-Israel Chamber of Commerce therefore took the initiative to set up the Association, which has been established with the chamber in New York as a center.”
The eleven countries in which the Israel bi-national chambers are established are Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, France, Holland, Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. The American Israel Chamber of Commerce has proposed holding the international conference of businessmen in Israel. The conference is tentatively scheduled for the first week in June, 1955.
