The Jewish Welfare Board today reported that Lt. Sigmund B. Segall, of Montgomery, Ala., Flying Fortress bombardier who scored direct hits on an enemy target from a badly shot-up, faltering plane in the throes of wracking vibration, holds eleven decorations, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and nine Oak Leaf Clusters. Lieutenant Segall is credited with fifty operational missions in the Mediterranean area.
Capt. Jack M. Berkowitz, of Los Angeles, Cal., has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and an Oak Leaf Cluster, for “meritorious achievements in aerial operations in the Southwest Pacific area,” the JWB also reports. Participating in the Papuan campaign, the Lae and Bismarok sea battles, Captain Berkowitz has engaged in more than 40 operations flights against Japanese positions.
Lt. Sidney Guzick, of Brooklyn, disclosed the JWB, has been decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He has been operating in the China-India theater, and has flown more than 100 hours as a navigator in a heavy bombardment plane. A member of the U.S. Army 14th Air Force in China, Lieutenant Guzick received his awards from Major General Chennault.
