A silver Menorah was presented today to the King and Queen of Denmark by the American Jewish Committee in appreciation of Denmark’s protection of its Jewish population during World War II. Most of the 9,000 Danish Jews were saved from Nazi murder.
The presentation was made to Paul B. Ryder, Consul General of Denmark, who accepted the gift on behalf of King Frederick IX and Queen Ingrid, who are now visiting the United States. The ceremony took place in the office of the Danish Consulate General here. Representing the Committee were President Herbert B. Ehrmann, Ralph Friedman, chairman of its Foreign Affairs department, and executive vice-president John Slawson.
