The American Jewish Committee today announced entrenchment of Congressional authorization of a special $16,000,000 allocation to aid Palestine Arabs who fled the country during the recent fighting. (The Senate yesterday approved a bill providing for the U.S. to contribute $16,000,000 of a $29,500,000 United Nations fund to provide relief for an estimated 472,000 Arabs and 7,000 Jews.)
Jacob Blaustein, president of the A.J.C., in a letter to Sen. Tom Connally, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, pointed out that “the great majority of the Palestinian refugees are Moslems. As a Jewish organization, we urge all possible help to then because human need knows no boundaries.”
