A delegation of leaders of the American Jewish Committee, headed by A.M. Sonnabend, president, left today for a two-week survey and consultative mission to Israel at the invitation of the Israeli Government.
“The delegation will confer with Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, other top Government officials, as well as representatives of Christian and Moslem groups in Israel,” an announcement said, adding that the AJC leaders “were invited to visit Israel by Mr. Ben-Gurion to discuss first hand Israel’s current economic, political and cultural concerns.” Mr. Sonnabend announced that the Committee mission will discuss the following situations:
1. Steps toward establishing a peaceful solution of tensions in the Middle East which will involve productive development of the entire region; 2. Israel’s economic problems, especially those created by the upcoming decrease in German reparations payments; 3. The process of integration in Israel of North African Jews; 4. The status of Christian and Moslem minorities in Israel; and 5. The Arab refugee problem.
The delegation will also discuss the development of educational programs “to clarify relationships between Israelis and Jews in the United States and the rest of the world,” Mr. Sonnabend stressed.
