The American Jewish Congress today urged the U.S. Senate to approve the report and recommendations of its special subcommittee calling for the censure of Senator Joseph McCarthy. In a policy statement released by its president, Dr. Israel Goldstein, the AJC declared:

“Just and courageous action by the Senate at this time can do much to end Senator McCarthy’s violations of basic American principles and restore confidence here and abroad in America’s commitments to the ideals of the free world,” The AJC statement asserted that “Senator McCarthy had abused the democratic process, misused his Congressional prerogatives and violated the fundamental principles of fair play.”
