It was the American Jewish Congress, and not the American Jewish Committee, as inadvertently reported by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, that sent a telegram to Judge Nathan Cayton of the municipal court of the District of Columbia, calling upon him for a retraction in connection with his recent charge of the existence of a “Jewish crime wave.”
The telegram, signed by Bernard G. Richards, executive director of the American Jewish Congress, was sent on January 2, at the behest of the combined Hebrew Congregations of Washington.
In the same story sent out by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, there were statistics giving the percentage of Jews among the prison population of New York State. These figures were furnished by the American Jewish Committee, as correctly stated.
