Rep. Walter A. Lyach, New York Democrat, today asked permission for himself and Nathan D. Perlman, vice-president of the American Jewish Congress, to appear before the full Post Office Committee in support of the Lyach Bill to ban from the mails false and defamatory racial and religious statements.
Rep. Lynch and Mr. Perlman were among these who testified for the bill before a special subcommittee during hearings in November. On Feb. 16 the full committee held an open hearing at which Morris Ernst of the American Civil Liberties Union was the only witness. He opposed the bill. Post Office Solicitor Vincent M. Miles, who testified against the bill during subcommittee hearings, appeared at the executive session that followed.
