Dr. Stephen S. Wise, president of the American Jewish Congress, today charged that the New York State Board of Regents is undermining “in its entirety the operation of the (State) Fair Education Practices Law” through failure to adopt a regulation prohibiting institutions of higher education from requesting applicants for admission to furnish information concerning race, religion or national origin.
In a letter to William J. Wallin, Chancellor of the Board of Regents, Dr. Wise pointed out that in a report to the, Board of Regents on Feb. 25, 1949, Frederik W. Hoeing, administrator of the Fair Education Practices Act, disclosed that a considerable number of educational institutions continue to request data likely to facilitate discrimination” from applicants for admission.
