A plaque in honor of its first graduation class of 1802 was presented here today to the United States Military Academy by the American Jewish Tercentenary committee on military participation. The first class consisted of just two graduates, Joseph G, Swift and Simon M. Levy.
The principal address at the ceremony was delivered by General Matthew B. Ridgway, Army Chief of Staff. General Ridgway, paying tribute to the class of 1802, said, “Cadet Levy was one of the first of the ‘Long Gray Line’ of West Pointers who have served our nation in war and peace for over a century and a half, many of whom, like him, were of the Jewish faith.”
