American Jewish women contributed $13,830,000 to the United Jewish Appeal last year through local community campaigns, Mrs. S. Alexander Brailove, chairman of the U.J.A.’s women’s division, announced last night at the opening session of a three-day national conference of the women’s division. The conference formally launched 400 local drives throughout the United States.
Aubrey S. Eban, Israel delegate to the United Nations, told the conference that unless American Jewry affords aid to Israel, not only will the new state’s future be difficult, but many advances already achieved may be canceled out. “Israel could not stop immigration because it would be psychologically disastrous,” he added.
