American Jewish Year Book Reports on Jewish Participation in War Effort

Reports of Jewish participation and distinction in the American armed forces and in the war efforts of the United Nations are among the new features of the forty-fourth volume of the American Jewish Year Book, issue today by The Jewish Publication Society of America. A full list of Jewish men in the American Army and Navy who received awards, citations, letters of recommendation and important promotions was compiled by the Bureau of War Records of the Jewish Welfare Board, especially for this volume of the Year Book. This is followed by listings of Jewish men who distinguished themselves in the armed forces of the United Nations.

Edited by Harry Schneiderman, assistant secretary of the American Jewish Committee and director of its Library of Jewish Information, and Morris T. Fine, assistant editor, the new volume of the American Jewish Year Book reflects the war situation, especially in the Review of the Year, which summarizes all significant events affecting Jews throughout the world during the past year. This review which covers 200 pages constitutes the largest annual report of Jewish affairs published anywhere in the world and was written by experts in various fields of Jewish communal life and authorities on foreign Jewish communities. The chapters of the review covering the United States deal extensively both with the internal development of Jewish communal life in its religious, social and cultural aspects and the relationship between the Jewish and non-Jewish groups in this country.
