Over 150,000 young men and women participated in Jewish Youth Week activities organized this year by some 150 youth councils throughout the country, Renee Solomon, chairman of the program of the National Youth Conference, reported to the parley here today. The Conference, which is being attended by delegates from 325 national and local Jewish youth groups, is sponsored by the National Jewish Welfare Board.
In a message to the Assembly, Israel Ambassador Abba Eban told the delegates: “American Jewish youth is anxious to do its full share in maintaining and strengthening the powerful tie between the American Jews and the people of Israel. Your generation stands ready to accept and preserve the privileges and responsibility that are the proud heritage of the great Jewish community of the United States. It is also anxious to nurture the cultural and spiritual identity between the Jewish community of the United States and that of Israel.”
Ludwig Nadelman of Quito, Ecuador, who represented the youth of his city at the parley, declared that “American Jewry exhibits a pattern towards survival and cultural creativity” which is currently lacking among the Jews of South America.
