American Jews were lauded here last night for the aid they are giving to the U.S. Government in checking Communism. “They are acting in the finest traditions and in the noblest spirit of the American people,” Federal Security Administrator Oscar R. Ewing said at the Silver Jubiles Banquet of the Pioneer Women at which he was one of the principal speakers.
President Truman, in a message today to the Pioneer Women, said that “Americans of every faith have an abiding interest in the welfare of Israel.” He emphasized that “the bonds of interest and affection which link the people of the United States and the people of Israel are among the forces which are strengthening democracy.”
Mr. Ewing revealed that next year the U.S. Government expects to send a mission to Israel, larger than the mission which Education Commissioner Earl J. McGrath headed this year, to continue aid to Israel education. He said that, in cooperation with the State Department, the government is preparing to supply experts to aid not only in education but also to deal with food, sanitation, hygiene and other problems. He said “in some cases, grants will be provided for training in educational institutions and agencies in this country.”
