American Jews should stop driving their cars on Saturday, not only to observe the Sabbath but also as a contribution to the energy crisis. This recommendation was made separately by Rabbi David Hollander, president of the Rabbinical Alliance of America, and Rabbi Moshe Sherer, president of Agudath Israel of America. Both Orthodox leaders said that if Jews did not use their cars for a 24-hour period it would constitute a substantial saving of gas imported from Arab countries and he a service to Israel.
