Jewish organizations in the United States will aid Canadian Jews to solve their problem of handling Roumanian Jewish refugees who have been diverted to Canada as a result of the stringency of the American immigration laws. Announcement to this effect was made by Lyon Cohen, chairman of the Canadian committee of the ICA, at a meeting of the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society of Canada.
Mr. Cohen said that Hias and the American Jewish Congress had accepted the Canadian viewpoint, that the problem was one which concerned American Jews as well as Canadians, and that they have promised full support and cooperation. Up to now 558 refugees have already arrived in Canada. Of this number only five have been detained and there has been assurance that these also will be admitted.
