The American League for a Free Palestine today announced that it will convene a Congress in September at which permanent officers of the League will be chosen. An interim executive committee was designated yesterday at the first formal meeting of the sponsoring committee of the League which was established to further the principles of the recently-established “Hebrew Committee of National Liberation” which seeks a seat on the council of the United Nations and demands the formation of an independent Jewish army.
Alex Wilf, a member of the executive committee, was named executive director of the new organization. He announced that the League would launch a membership campaign and would seek to mobilize American public opinion in behalf of its activities. He claimed that the sponsoring committee now numbers 479 members.
