The rivalry is between the manufacturers of machine made matzoths in America and the native matzoths bakers throughout Europe. The same situation has arisen in Palestine.
While the Americans are trying to win the matzoths market by underselling, the local Jewish bakers are finding refuge in the provisions of the shulckhan aruth, and are trying to cast doubts on the kashruth of the American matzoths.
