Lt. Gen. Geoffrey Keyes, American military commander in Austria, issued the following message to the Jewish personnel in the U.S. army occupation forces here on the occasion of Passover:
“This festive season has, at all times, been an inspiration in mankind’s struggle against slavery and oppression. It is incumbent upon all who by religious traditions stand on the side of freedom to join forces with all other freedom loving men and women in order to establish conditions for the maintenance of a free and just life everywhere. All members of the United States Forces in Austria are striving to achieve this end.”
