An “open letter” to the Israel Government urging it to prevent the establishment of a non-kosher kitchen on the new passenger ship “Shalom” of the Zim Lines–parallel with a kosher kitchen–was published here today by the Religious Zionist Party of America, representing the Mizrachi and Mizrachi-Laborite groups. A similar statement was issued today by the Rabbinical Council of America, an Orthodox group.
In issuing the “open letter,” Rabbi Mordecai Kirshblum, president of the American Religious Zionist Party, emphasized that his party had “always maintained that all public institutions of the State of Israel should observe the principles of Kashruth.” He argued that “Zim is not a private undertaking, but rather a government enterprise.”
