Professor William Frederick Bade of the University of California, head of the archaeological expedition to excavate Mizpah, left Palestine on his return to the United States.
In an interview with the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Professor Bade gave a summary of the discoveries of his expedition. The expedition discovered first, the head of the Goddess Astarte “The Queen of Heaven” mentioned by Jeremiah. Professor Bade stated that the coiffure of the goddess resembled that of the modern bob. A skeleton of an ancient inhabitant of Mizpah, found by Professor Bode, is being taken to the United States for anthropological study.
Cisterns and complete sets of Israelitish pottery beginning from the early monarchy period until the exile were also unearthed. A tunnel leading from one large cistern to another was also discovered.
