The Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada last night telegraphed M. Sokolowski, Polish charge d’affaires at Washington, asking him “to present to your Government our strong protest against those who attempt to prohibit shechitah in Poland,”
The protest said: “Should such a law be passed, the Jews of Poland, who are unswervingly observant of Jewish laws and practices, will be unjustly discriminated against and be deprived of the inalienable right to practice the teachings of the Jewish religion.
“It has been established beyond a doubt that the Jewish method of slaughtering animals is most humane. We ask your good offices to the end that our co-religionists in Poland may not become the victims of anti-Semitic legislation.” The statement was signed for the 400 members by Rabbis Joseph Konvitz, president, and Louis Seltzer, secretary.
