The Central Conference of American Rabbis today issued a statement calling for continued suspension of the testing of nuclear weapons.
The Central Conference of American Rabbis has repeatedly urged that the testing of nuclear weapons be stopped with a view to establishing a permanent ban of nuclear explosions. “Such a procedure,” the statement declares, “is an indispensable safeguard of human health and a needful step in retarding the dangerous permanent race.”
Noting that there have been reports that the United States will resume tests when the moratorium year ends on October 31, the statement asks that the present situation be continued. “Our country,” the statement says “should not be the first to break the tacit truce that now prevails.”
