Moses A. Leavitt and Dr. Joseph C. Schwartz, executive vice-chairman and European director of the Joint Distribution Committee, respectively, have arrived in Poland where they are now visiting Jewish communities in Lower Silesia.
The Polish press reports that Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, president of the American federation for Polish Jews, has sent $1,000 for the relief of flood victims. Kimierz Rusinek, Minister for Social Welfare, sent a message of thanks to the Federation.
The Polish Government will sponsor a bill placing under government protection Jewish cemeteries and other places connected with the memory of the more than 3,000,000 Polish Jews who died under the Nazi regime. A special council including Jews will be set up to administer these sites. The action followed a meeting between Jewish representatives and Minister of Culture Stanislaw Dybowski on problems involved in protecting Jewish cemeteries and museums.
