The American Zionist Council today urged the United States Government “to take an unequivocal, determined stand” in the U.N. Security Council next Tuesday against the Egyptian “blockade of Israel-bound ships using the Suez Canal.
In a telegram to Secretary of State Dean Acheson, Louis Lipsky, chairman of the American Zionist Council, recalled the official protests made by the State Department against the blockade, but he pointed out that “it is urgently necessary, for the peace of the Middle East, that these protests now be implemented through the Security Council.
“Failure to do so would encourage Egypt in its violation of international law and lower the prestige in the Middle East of the United nations, as well as of the United States,” he said.
