The American Zionist Council, which represents all Zionist organizations in this country, issued a statement today criticizing the stand of the U.S. Government at the United Nations Security Council in condemning Israel for the Gaza incident. The statement, signed by Rabbi Irving Miller, president, said in part:
“The resolution of condemnation adopted by the Security Council and co-sponsored by the U.S. representatives will only serve to encourage the Egyptian Government and the other hostile Arab states allied with it in their intransigence towards Israel and in continuing their armed incursions into Israel territory.”
Rabbi Philip S. Bernstein, chairman of the American Zionist Committee for Public Affairs, said today that the resolutions adopted by the Security Council should have been changed to include “a vigorous call” upon the Arab countries and Israel to settle their differences by direct talks and to reach a peace settlement.
