The Emergency Committee for Zionist Affairs, at a plenary session today decided to oppose any proposal for the inclusion of Palestine in a federation of Arab states and reaffirmed the position it has previously taken in favor of the establishment of Palestine as a Jewish Commonwealth after the war.
The decision was adopted after hearing reports from Dr. Stephan S. Wise and Emanuel Neumann. It will be communicated to the ZOA annual convention opening Saturday at Cincinnati as well as to the World Zionist Executive in London. Rabbi Wise and Mr. Neumann reported on the political situation as it affects Palestine.
The discussion which developed at the session attended by representatives of all Zionist groups – the ZOA, Hadassah, Poalei Zion, Nisrachi and the Jewish State Party – were centered around the persistent reports of British negotiations with representatives of the Arab states in the Middle East and rumored proposals for the inclusion of Palestine in an Arab federation to be set up during the progress of the war. Concern was expressed lest negotiations or commitments made at this time, affect the future status of Palestine and prejudge the post war settlement. It was the consensus of opinion that such discussions or proposals were premature and prejudicial.
