Two Americans, Isler Solomon and his wife, today received the first Hebrew-printed visas to Israel issued in this country. Signed by Arie Stern, Jewish Agency representative in Italy, the visas were inserted into the Solomon American passports. They will leave shortly for Tel Aviv where. Solomon will conduct several concerts.
Celebrations marking the establishment of Israel are-continuing in various parts of Italy. The British consul in Bari celebrated the Israeli proclamation of statehood at a Jewish gathering there today. Rabbi I.N. Levin, Minister without Portfolio in the Israeli Cabinet, stopped off here today en route to New York, becoming the first Israeli Minister to visit Italy.
Eleven planes believed to be en route to Israel were grounded by Italian officials yesterday after their papers were found not to be in order. They stopped at the Companion airport near here yesterday and today. Other planes, whose papers were in order, were allowed to proceed to their destination. Two or three planes, mostly from western European countries, have passed through Rome daily en route to Israel since the British Mandate terminated.
