The American contingent at the current Maccabiah competition here was far in the lead this weekend with a total of 18 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze medals already won. Israel stood second with seven gold, eight silver and six bronze medals.
Other teams winning prizes so far included the British with three gold, one silver and five bronze medals; South Africa with two gold, two silver and one bronze; Argentina with four silver and one bronze; Mexico with one gold and one silver; the Netherlands with one gold and one bronze; Canada and Iran with one silver each; and Australia and France with one bronze each.
It was learned here today, meanwhile, that Willi Daume, president of the West German National Olympic Committee and of the German Sport Club, will be guest of honor at the closing ceremonies of the Maccabiah. West Germany is represented in the competition by a group of young German Jewish sportsmen.
