Americans Urged to Demonstrate at Every Arab Consulate in U.S. or at UN to Protest Against PLO

Rabbi Israel Miller, outgoing president of the American Zionist Federation, has urged all Americans throughout the nation to demonstrate at every Arab consulate in the United States or at the United Nations to protest against the invitation to the Palestine Liberation Organization to address the UN General Assembly.

Speaking at the AZF’s third national convention at the Statler Hilton, Rabbi Miller, who is also chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations,’ said that “thousands of us will gather opposite the UN building in New York on Monday Nov. 4 to voice our protest, the protest of humanity at Arab terror. If you cannot Join us, I urge you to join in protest at every Arab consulate in the U.S.” More than 600 AZF members gathered over the weekend for the convention whose theme was the “Zionist Program for Today and Tomorrow.”

They were told by Israeli Ambassador Simcha Dinitz, “Israel today stands as ever ready to negotiate peace with each of its neighbors. If peace is not within our reach, it is because our neighbors have not yet decided that they are prepared to live in peace with an independent Jewish State in the Middle East.”

Dinitz noted that the Arab leaders at their summit meeting at Rabat “will have to make the decision whether they want to proceed on the course of peace or rather on the road of war which will bring no solution but more pain, more agony, and more suffering to the people of the Mideast.”

SOLUTION OF PALESTINIAN QUESTION

Dinitz declared: “The solution to the question of the Palestinians can come only in the framework of negotiations with Jordan, Any attempt to create a separate state between Israel and Jordan will be an attempt to interject into the area a state which historically is baseless, ethnological without Justification, economically without viability, politically frustrated, ideologically of Soviet orientation, and militarily having the sole purpose of undoing Israel and Jordan.”

Sen. Edward Kennedy (D.Mass.) told the convention that “we must stand for peace, but a peace that provides recognized and secure boundaries for the State of Israel, a permanent peace’ He stated that if the U.S. “resolves to continue to supply to Israel the tools it needs for Its own defense, then the people of Israel will assure their own security and their own future.” Kennedy pledged “to work to see that aid does continue.” He said that he will be going soon to Israel.

MRS. SCHENK NEW AZF PRESIDENT

At a session yesterday, the AZF elected Mrs. Faye Schenk of New York as president to succeed Rabbi Miller, who had served in the post for four years. Mrs. Schenk, who Is also national chairman of the Hadassah Medical Organization and former Hadassah president, called on the U.S. government to continue its firm support of Israel. She said that recent events have shown American Jews that “the survival of the State of Israel and the Jewish people is now at stake.” She cited “the sneak attack of the Arabs last October, the Arab oil blackmail, the barbaric acts of Arab terrorists and the inhumane UN invitation to the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organisation) to address the United Nations.”

Mrs. Schenk said “Anti-Israel clouds are gathering in the international arena.” She called on all Jewish organizations to coordinate their efforts so that “our united voice can be heard against the evil and destructive designs against Israel and the Jewish people.” She pledged that the AZF would “penetrate into every corner every community of the U.S., to educate and to rally support for Israel.” She noted, “If ever there was a time to strengthen the Zionist movement, this is it.”
